First Seedlings!

5 out of the 20 Dwarf Grey Sugar Snow Peas that I've planted have sprouted! Three had by this morning, and another two by the time I got home from work/dinner at midnight. :-DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD

I'm so excited. And I'm expecting the beans soon -- apparently, 5 days with perfect growing conditions is average for beans sprouting. It was the fourth day today.

The question then is, how soon after sprouting should I be readying trellis' for them?

I'll let you know as it happens!

  1. Are your beans outside? If so... be prepared to cover them whenever it gets cold at night. They're not at all frost-hardy :( That said, I sow my beans underneath a pre-positioned trellis. That way I don't have to fuss about it and risk being late installing it.

I sowed my peas this weekend (under a trellis net) and also my potatoes, in a new bed built almost entirely with rabbit poo. I seeded another bed with a mix of lettuce, spinach, radish, carrot, and beet seeds... we'll see how it does!

  2. No, they're in little compostable seed starter pots because it's been cold enough that I don't want to hurt them.

So I'll probably work on getting a trellis sooner rather than later, and hope for the best.
